Advanced Algebra II

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Objective: The student will:
Sort sequences into arithmetic or geometric
Apply equations for sequences
Find different expressions for same algebraic concept

Agenda:
I. Opener – pass in
II. Homework check and review .
III. Solving by rewriting 2-143 to 2-148

Homework: 2-149 through 2-156 and CL 2-157 through CL2-164

1. Use your graphing calculator to find out as much as you can about the function : 2(x-8)^1/2 - 5. Be sure to write down everything you have found clearly so that your teacher can understand it.

2. Dino and Jessica were doing their homework when Dino got to a problem about sequences that only had the numbers 2, 6, ... written down. Dino thought this was an arithmetic sequence while Jessica was sure it was geometric.
a. If Dino is right, find the next three terms of the sequence and the rule.
b. If Jessica is right, find the next three terms of the sequence and the rule.
c. Jessica found in her notes the number 266 is an output of the sequence. Is the sequence arithmetic or geometric? How do you know?
